final project

On April 15 2019, the Notre Dame cathedral caught on fire.  The people of Paris watched in horror as their beloved monument, almost 1000 years old, burned before their eyes. The crowds gasped as the Cathedral’s massive spire collapsed and fell through the stone vaulted roof of the nave.   In this assignment, you and your small group will present a narrated slide show (should we try this one more time?) discussing the significance of Notre Dame Cathedral, the circumstances of the fire, and the plan for the rebuilding of the Cathedral.  Your slide show will be broken down into three sections, with a different student creating the text and images for each section. All students should watch the Google arts and culture/Getty Trust online exhibition:  An Enduring Icon: Notre Dame Cathedral  (Links to an external site.)as a starting point in approaching this assignment.  For this assignment you will be working in groups of three.  You have already been assigned a group  (which you can switch out of and join another group.   Here is a reminder on how to work in groups.) Assignment topic:  Within your Small Discussion Groups, students will research Notre Dame Cathedral on their own.  Then, within your group, I would like you to create a 16 slide narrated slide show  presentation which will be broken into three section (5 slides each) and address the following:  Section 1:  Discuss the historical relevance of Notre Dame Cathedral, unique architectural aspects of the structure, and the role it plays in the city of Paris.  Section 2: Analyze the circumstances of the fire and extent of the damage done to the Cathedral.  What caused the fire, how was it similar or different to other church fires, why did it happen when it did?  Section 3: Evaluate the rebuilding plans for Notre Dame and the debates surrounding the reconstruction.   What is the plan, who is involved, who is paying for the reconstruction?    Assignment Instructions: Your slide show should be organized as follows:  Slideshow presentation must include 16 slides and include both visual and text elements in each one.   Slideshow can be created using powerpoint or google slide.  This presentation will need to be narrated.  You may select one member of the group to narrate the whole slide show or each member narrate 1/3 of the show.   The narrator(s) should be working from a script, and ideally using a microphone to create a clear narration.  Here is a link on how to narrate a slide show in google slides.  Here is some information on how to narrate a powerpoint. .  You must include an Introductory slide which introduces each group member and states their specific contributions to the slide show.  This slide will count as part of the 16 slides.    You will need to site any sources that you use, including your digital images.   Here is information on citing digital images.  (Links to an external site.)  This citation should appear on the slide itself.   Remember to consult the rubric as you work!  So this is a Group project, but my part is section 3. All you have to do is making 5 slides for section #3. You will be conducting your own research for this project.  Here are some articles that I found to be helpful but feel free to find your own. There are many many news articles on the fire and lots of information about the historical importance of Notre Dame Cathedral.  Inside the Fight Over How Notre Dame Should Rise From the Ashes Time magazine July 25 2019 (Links to an external site.)
