There is a word doc with the case study and references to use.
You have been hired as an organizational communication consultant to evaluate and improve the communication environment of RemyCake Bakery. The owners of RemyCake believe better communication processes are the key to taking them to the next level. Your job is to develop a report evaluating one of the communication problems facing RemyCake Bakery. In your report, you will offer a clear set of approaches to addressing and improving the communication environment/processes responsible for this issue.
You should have a focused approach to what you want to accomplish. In other words, do not try to tackle all of the problems/issues facing the bakery.
Section I: Define the problem?
One thing to consider is that if you look for problems, you’ll find them. If you look for opportunities to improve, you’ll find those too. Meaning, it is easy to say problems. But, as organizational communication scholars, we also want to think about challenges we can address or opportunities we can find. Not everything is so linear as a problem followed by a solution.
First, provide a clear picture of the communication environment. Discuss, clearly, what you have determined as the communication problem, challenge, or opportunity facing RemyCake Bakery.
Section II: What to do about it
In this section, your report should focus on suggested ways to address what you’ve identified in Section I. These suggestions need to be well supported by theory and research. This is where your 5 scholarly sources come into play.
This should be the bulk of your report.
Section II: A useful guide
Your report should describe/determine what improvements you believe should be made and the steps required to secure those improvements. This is describing the WHAT.
You will also detail the measures you recommend an organization incorporate in order to successfully integrate different communicative practices and behaviors at key levels of the organization impacted by the issue(s). This is describing the HOW.
The report should be very clear on why the recommendations are appropriate for this organization and the issue(s) it faces. Remember the criteria of being evidence-based. This is describing the WHY.
Finally, articulate how you might track and/or measure the degree of improvement so that your recommendation(s) can be compared against the baseline.
Remember: A foundational component of this paper is your use of organizational communication theory and research to provided evidence for your diagnosis and recommendations.
Research and Supporting with Evidence:
*Our course covers important theory and research in organizational communication. Yet, it is reasonable to assume that a discipline as vast and diverse as ours cannot be covered in 12 modules. Thus, the course can’t cover everything. You’ll need to find research outside of what the course covers in order to fully support the points you make in this paper.
Remember: Throughout this paper, support your points, arguments, recommendations, etc with the requisite evidence from the research you’ve conducted. Support from the research should be very clear throughout the document. The paper should reference a minimum of 5 highly credible, scholarly sources beyond the Shockley-Zalabak textbook.
