Journal article summary

French RYou will write and upload a summary of one journal article. The article should be chosen from the list of journals in the syllabus and should deal with some aspect of research in second language acquisition that you are reading about and that is of interest to you. Look at the References/Bibliography in your course textbooks for ideas, if you are unsure as to the type of article you should be looking for. The articles must be no more than 20 years old. Guidelines for preparing the summary are below; you are limited to a four-page summary (12 pt. font). Make sure to use APA reference style to identify the article at the top of your document and attach a copy of the article to the submission for the professor. Be sure to insert page numbers in the submission.

Look through the abstract in the journal to get an idea of what kind of information to include as well as an idea of how specific to be. Additionally, you may want to refer to Chapter 2 in Gass for more information on SLA data. In general, your summary should touch on the following aspects of the research reported.

What was the purpose of the research? What is the significance of the problem investigated to the field second language acquisition and second language teaching if applicable? How is the study related to what you are reading for this course and to previous research or the field at large?
What was the method of research? Quantitative or qualitative?
Subjects/Informants: Who were the participants?
Materials and procedures: What was the research methodology and which instruments or data collection processes were applied?
