Discussion Task Instructions
For this discussion task, each student will write a 1-2 page essay that highlights the immense political contributions of African Americans and the critical roles they played (both in the South and in the North) to Reconstruct Democracy in the United States during the period immediately after the Civil War. Follow the essay format below:
Introduction (2 points)
For the introduction, you must include a one-sentence thesis statement at the end of the introductory paragraph. The thesis statement must be bold and identify the political measure(s) used to achieve a particular goal to advance the Afrcian American community.
Body (2 points)
For the body paragraph, you must include relevant evidence from historical and/or contemporary sources and identify specific people (or a person) and their role as Black political power.
Conclusion (2 points)
A conclusion paragraph must be present. Your conclusion paragraph should wrap up your ideas and reiterate your thesis.
Formatting (4 points)
The paper needs to be typed. You must bold your thesis statement. The paper should be no less than one page and no more than two pages in length (this DOES NOT include the cover page and work cited page). The paper needs to be double-spaced, use 12-point Times New Roman font, use one-inch margins all around, and include MLA citations (full references and in-text).
