In “The Lady’s Dressing Room”, Jonathan Swift describes women as disgusting underneath their fancy clothes and perfumes. What is the function of disgust? In other words, what is an author trying to accomplish when he or she evokes a reader’s disgust at some person, event, or thing? What is Swift’s goal in evoking readers’ disgust at women? And how does he do it? Refer to some specific examples from the text and discuss them.
