This week we looked at the study of human osteology, and then put it to good use by studying forensic anthropology. Forensics is a very large field and all of it is not anthropological. For instance, we don’t study things like blood spatter, foot print analysis, etc. We study things associated with DNA as well as human bones. For this week’s discussion, I want you to choose a famous criminal case where forensic anthropologists were used. Here are your choices:

The murder of Caylee Anthony in the United States.
Dr. Hawley Harvey Crippen and the murder of his wife
The notorious Ted Bundy case
The murder of Toussaint-Augustin Gouffe in France
The Green River killer in the United States
Another case, but please get it approved by me first

Here are the details to include in your discussion:

Provide a brief synopsis of the crime’s events
Provide the evidence used to solve the case
Is the resolution to this case controversial or agreed upon?
What might be missing from the evidence that could give stronger support for a guilty or not guilty conviction?
Provide a brief statement about the importance of forensic science in criminal justice.

Once you have finished your posting it, publish it and then respond to two peer’s initial responses who chose a different famous crime from you. Does the evidence provided seem like enough to have reached a guilty or not guilty verdict? Are there pieces of evidence that your peer did not consider that might help give stronger support to a guilty or not guilty verdict? Do you agree with your peer’s statements about the importance of forensics in criminal justice? Be sure to be respectful and use examples that are supported in research.
