Grading Rubric for Final Exam:

Points: 40% (400 points)

40 points: Full credit – all aspects of the grading criterion met at a level of excellence 30 points: Partial credit – nearly all aspects of the grading criterion met (Good)
20 points: Partial credit – half of the aspects of the grading criterion met (Fair)
10 points: Partial credit – at least some aspect of the grading criterion met (Poor)

0 points: No credit – No aspect of the grading criteria met.

Strong thesis statement that a) introduces the subject and b) illustrates the main points of a particular literary theory (any listed in

Writing and Literature: Composition as Inquiry, Learning, Thinking, and Communication)in the paper.

Consistent order for your argument using your chosen theory, either using a point-by- point structure or a structure where you pull apart your story or poem using the lens of one literary theory.

Specific examples that illustrate the literary theory chosen are present. The paper only includes information relevant to the thesis statement.

Use of at least three (3) main points to support the the literary theory chosen. This also should be a strong, argumentative thesis. It’s all about the support.

Each point is detailed in the paper. No one main point is lacking details. Smooth transi- tions from point to point are present.

6. Use of at least two to three outside sources (this can include the textbook if cited cor- rectly). Citation is in MLA format. There are no maximum source limitation. You can also add in your final folder (or online) a copy of the sources (if you are concerned about my being able to find them).

Clear, strong, and present conclusion that a) firmly wraps up the literary theory used to analyze one literary work, b) avoids adding new information that suggests a continua- tion of the paper, and c) does not include quotes or citations in the summation.

Grammatical Clarity: Do errors in grammar or spelling distract the reader from the content?

Length: Six to Eight pages. (The 20 points is automatically given unless the paper is shorter than six full pages, when a 10 point deduction is taken.)
