Artifact analysis
Since we are unable to go visit the Smithsonian in person, each student will search the Smithsonian Learning Lab and select an artifact for this assignment. This artifact will be something relevant to the readings (any unit we’ve covered), and something which they believe would make a great cover for the main textbook for our class, The Struggle for Freedom. Be sure to state why/how this artifact would make a good book cover in your analysis.
You will need to go to learninglab.si.edu to get started. Type key terms from our class in the search bar and explore!!
Once you have selected your artifact online, your analysis must satisfy the following requirements:
-the analysis must be at least one (1) whole page in length
-the analysis must be written clearly and with attention to grammar and punctuation
-the analysis must have a full heading, which includes the name/title of the selected artifact
-the analysis must first identify the important characteristics of the artifact (details like colors, tones,
moods, structure, wording, etc.)
-then, the analysis must accurately describe how these characteristics reflect a connection between your
selected item and the course readings
-finally, the analysis must also include a direct, word-for-word quote from the readings that directly indicates the connection(s), including page number(s) where this quote was found.
YOUR ANALYSIS MUST INCLUDE A HYPERLINK TO YOUR ARTIFACT ON THE SMITHSONIAN WEBSITE SO I CAN GO IN AND SEE IT!! I WILL NOT GRADE IT OTHERWISE.
