Module 7: Un Restaurant Diététique

Imagine that you are a chef opening a new restaurant for health-conscious diners. Browse Tableau des Calories to find nutritional information and create a 3-course menu that is no greater than 1000 total calories. You can browse the different categories or search for a specific food item. Your menu must include: une entrée, un plat principal, et un dessert. You may have one set course or provide multiple options.

Once you’ve decided on a menu, create a flyer advertising it! You may use a program such as Microsoft Word or PowerPoint, or even draw to make your ad. Be sure to include key information as well as pictures. Don’t forget to give your restaurant a name!

Suggested Methods for Presenting Your Written Menu

Type your menu in Microsoft Word and add pictures to your document.
Astuces: Remember that you can change the quantity of a food item to alter its amount of calories! The default amount is 100g (.22 lbs or 3.5 oz), so be sure to think about how much food that actually is.

Your recorded ad doesn’t have to be long or complicated. You can use verbs like vouloir, pouvoir, and devoir along with the vocabulary from Chapters 6 and 7 to pose some simple questions to your audience and make some simple statements about your menu. Don’t forget that the calorie count is a key selling point, so be sure to mention it!

Remember that this is FRE1121 and I am grading you accordingly. I am not looking for you to attempt the same level of complexity and nuance that you would in English. You are welcome to use Google Translate or WordReference to look up new words (please underline and define them in English in parentheses), but try to focus on using what you’ve practiced in the module. The goal of this assignment is to demonstrate that you can put together what we’ve seen in class so far in a simple, yet comprehensible way. If you are looking up more than 2-3 words, then your work is too complicated. Simplify your thoughts and aim for words and structures you are already familiar with. The use of online translation tools (e.g. Google Translate, Babelfish, etc.) to write the majority of your script is a form of Academic Dishonesty and will not be tolerated. The inappropriate use of such tools will result in a deduction or even a zero for the assignment. Try to focus on writing within your own limits and those of the materials covered in this and prior modules. I want to hear you expressing yourself in the simple French you know, not your complex English ideas run through a robotic translation.
