Assignment – ‘Language teaching and learning pedagogy’.

This assignment needs to be in 3 parts…

1. Part 1 is to provide a general overview of pedagogical language methods and/or strategies that can be used within a bilingual classroom.

For the purpose of the assignment, a bilingual classroom is an English medium secondary school classroom within Wales, where the Welsh language is also used within it.

Use references 1, 4, 6; as well as one of your own… Approx 250 words.

2. Part 2 is to provide a general overview of language teaching and learning practical strategies/methodologies that could be applied within my own teaching.

I am a History teacher, so this could be to teach the students how to correctly pronounce and write various historical events, names and sites within Wales, etc.

Use reference 2 & 3; as well as one of your own… Approx 250 words.

3. Part 3 is to present one method/strategy that you could be applied within m own teaching, that would develop/aid learners’ Welsh oracy, reading or writing skills or their use of Incidental/Everyday Welsh… E.g. this could be the use of general questioning, commands or praise; drilling; use of games, drama, resources or digital competency.

General question could be to ask a student ‘Why do you think that?’ in Welsh (Pam wyt ti’n meddwl hynny?). The student wouldn’t be expected to provide an answer in Welsh however, the aim here is just to make sure they understand the question. This could also be written as feedback within their books.
Commands and praise could be da iawn (very good), tawel os gwelwch yn dda (quiet please) and eisteddwch lawr (evebody sit down).

You could also put how I intend to get the students to write classwork (gwaith dosbarth) and todays date (dyddiad heddiw) in their books at the start of every lesson but in Welsh, and encourage the students to always use simple responses in Welsh; such as diolch, instead of thank you.

Everyday welsh could be greetings, etc… For example, good morning (bore da), good afternoon (prynhawn da) and hwyl fawr (goodbye everyone), etc.
