Australia, New Zealand, and Oceania
Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Island nations and kingdoms are among the remotest places on earth (the most remote is Hawaii). Their remoteness and their physical geographies support unique ecologies in terms of plants and animals, some found nowhere else in the world except for in zoos. Some of these places have been peopled through migration from all over the world, some by migrations from within the region, resulting in an interconnected ocean-based culture with common elements for all the countries except Australia. Watch the videos below. Most of the sites have several videos. Then play the Oceania game until you can identify the various island nations and kingdoms. This final essay will focus on the relationship between the cultures of the region and their natural environment. Use examples from at least three different places to write a cohesive minimum 5-paragraph essay. Again, if you use additional websites, include them in your bibliography and post them on the week’s blog to share with others.
