First, review Part 2 of Module 2 BEFORE beginning this discussion so you have a frame of reference for this forum.
For Part 2 of Module 2, we are examining the time periods from the 1920s to the 1950s.
You have 2 sections to complete for this discussion.
Section 1:
There are four decades to review for part 2 of Module 2 (20s, 30s, 40s, 50s).
Use a theme from one (1) work in each decade to respond to this question:
Can Humans Be Trusted?
Essentially, you’re using the “lens” of that decade to answer that question.
The “work” that you select from each decade can be a book, a chapter from a book, or a film, or a short story, or even a clip from YouTube. What I’m looking for in section 1 is your understanding of the work’s theme. How do you think the author/director would answer the question of how to describe their work’s theme? This is your opinion, of course. You’ll need to conduct a little more light research to answer this question as Module 2 only provides you with a brief overview of the notable works from each decade. You may find information on Google (ex search phrase: “1920s Science Fiction”), the FSCJ Library, and YouTube. Please be careful and cautious of sources you find on Google or YouTube. If you choose a work without one specific author, that’s okay. Just tell me the name of the work.
20s
Your Work/Author Selection:
Its Theme:
How would this decade answer “Can Humans be Trusted?”
(80 to 100 words / no fluff / avoid summary of plot)
30s

40s

50s (suggestion: Arthur C. Clarke’s “The Sentinel” that inspired 2001: A Space Odyssey)

(80 to 100 words / no fluff / avoid summary of plot)
Section 2:
Within the range of works and/or authors listed in Part 2 of Module 2, choose one work that speaks to you. IMPORTANT: It must be a different work from one you selected in part 1. (You are most welcome to write about a work not listed in Part 2 of Module 2, just make sure it still fits within the same time frame – 1920s through 1950s.) Whether it be a short story, a novel, or a film, you must provide a link to the work somewhere online (example: Google link or YouTube link). If you cannot find a link to the specific work online, find an article or video that reviews the work. It should be academic in nature. If you aren’t sure what academic means, read this.
For section 2, tell us about the work. What do you find interesting? Is there any social flaw present in the work? How does the work use the genre of science fiction to address a human concern? (You don’t have to answer all of these questions. They are meant as springboards for your section 2 reflection.)

**I’ve read hundreds of reviews for 1984 for this assignment. I’ll look upon your work kindly if you can push yourself to review a different work besides this one. It’s not necessarily off limits, just know if you choose this one, your review should bring a fresh approach to this highly consumed novel.**
