The Course Project Plan is worth up to 25 points and must be submitted before 11:59PM MST on Friday, Week 2. The Course Project Plan be submitted through the Canvas assignment link in the Week 2 learning module. You must attach your work as a doc or docx. You must receive approval prior to beginning your project. Approval will be given through grading feedback.
Step 1: Choose your topic:
● HIV/AIDs in the US today
● Obesity (may choose children or adults)
● Women’s health issues (you will need to propose a specific area of interest)
● Children’s health issues (you will need to propose a specific area of interest)
● Alzheimer’s
● Cancer
● Suicide
● Opioid abuse
● Drug Abuse (specify what kind and what population)
● Tobacco Use
● Poverty and health
● Healthcare
● Race/ethnicity and health
● Comparison of US to Global Health & Illness (choose a specific area)
● The Social Construction of Illness (be specific)
● Pandemics
All topics must be from the list provided, or permission must be granted before the Course Project Plan is due.
Step 2: Begin your research:
● Locate at least 3-4 peer-reviewed sociological journal articles about your research topic.
○ All journals must be peer-reviewed and sociological If you do not choose peer-reviewed sociological journal articles for the Course Project Plan, then you will earn no more than 5 points on the Course Project Plan.
○ You may not use medical journal articles.
I recommend searching Library’s online databases for peer-reviewed journal articles. Contact the ASU Librarian if you are having trouble searching the databases. There is additional information in Module 0 on the Sources & Citations page.
Step 3: Format your Course Project Plan as follows:
● Identify the topic you chose from the list of topics. Write a brief summary (3-5
sentences) explaining why you chose this topic and what you hope to learn. Be sure to
save a copy of your topic, so you may refer to it later.
● Provide your reference list of at least 3 and no more than 4 properly formatted
citations (including being alphabetized) utilizing APA formatting for the peer-reviewed sociological journal articles you will use for this project.
○ If you do not include all of the required information, then you will earn no more than 5 out of 25 points on the Course Project Plan. Peer- reviewed journal articles come from peer-reviewed academic articles. You must use sociological articles. Refer to the information in Module 0 on the Sources & Citations page or ask an librarian for help if you are unsure whether an article is peer-reviewed or sociological.
○ All reference citations must comply with APA formatting requirements. If yours do not, then you will earn no more than 5 points on the Course Project Plan.
