CASE 1 – supply chain management

Here is the first fantastic case. Routing trucks is an important skill to master. It is easy, just imagine if you were in the driver seat. Drive to the furthest stop and make you way back. Try never to criss cross any of your trucks and cover ground twice. It may take a few tries.

Part One: Figure out how much you are picking up. My spreadheet has the formulas but make sure they work.

Part Two: Build 3 Routes picking up every supplier each day

Part Three: Optimize the Ohio suppliers and pick up the small suppliers less then 5 times per week, without over filling the truck.

Always check the calculations on the spreadsheet to make sure they copy correctly. Add stop numbers and titles if needed.

You only have to turn in the spreadsheet.

Here is some additional direction:

Print each of the files and review them. Also, print the instructions from the Canvas assignment. Read it through, and take a break to think about your approach.

1. The excel spreadsheet is the form you use to show your routes and answer any other question. I have included many of the calculations, but never assume they are right once you start inputting and copying data. This is where things often go wrong. Check your logic and the results to make sure they make sense.

In the second section make sure that your truck has a full schedule and is assigned delivery or “window times”. Make sure the miles add up from stop to stop. Make sure your routes are efficient and your drivers don’t get too tired from working long hours.

The third section helps the route become more efficient by reducing the number of days you visit a supplier.

Term paper: You should be starting your paper. Feel free to run your topics by me or if you are looking for an idea, I can think of a few things. It is best if you pick a topic you are interested in.
