Commentary paper on guest lectures/articles
There are 5 materials that are required reading that will be used for this assignment. Two guest speakers will discuss their experiences consulting in mental health and organizational settings. The 2 lectures will be posted online (lectures are by licensed social worker and consultant Lisa Friedman and by family therapist/family business consultant P. Cole); one lecture also includes an article written by the presenter (article by P. Cole). Additionally, there is a second article about consultation in a healthcare setting by a licensed counselor (B. Rosenberg), and a third article about consultation in an educational setting (Fruin). All of these materials (5 total) will be posted in the classroom for you to access and the reference information for the three publications are at the end of the syllabus. Students will write a brief (4-5 page) paper, commenting on what they found interesting about the information presented in the two guest lectures and in the three articles (a total of 5 materials to review for this paper). Student reactions, opinions, reflections, etc. should be presented-this is an opinion paper, but should be clearly linked to the content presented in these materials. Papers should be written in first person “I” voice. This paper should NOT simply summarize the materials and all 5 aspects must be commented on, in some fashion. This paper should be in APA format and is due on Saturday, 4/12, by midnight. The paper is worth 30 points (points allocated for reflection on all 5 pieces of material, in addition to APA formatting, grammatical structure, etc.).
