Forum on five cultural differences (SOC 101)

• Please, discuss the most striking five cultural differences (other than food, music, and language) you noticed when you visited a foreign country.
• Focus on the cultural, not natural differences.
• If you have not visited other countries, you may talk about the cultural differences you found out in other US states, city or towns.
• If you are a foreign student, please, describe your first impressions of the US culture.
• Note: It’s normal if you had negative reactions to other cultures. Please, write about these impressions, too but always in a respectful manner.
• Write a thoughtful original paragraph of at least 500 words on the above-mentioned topic.
• Support your point of view with logical arguments that demonstrate your critical thinking and communication skills.
• Your entry must reflect the fact that you read and understood the assigned chapter.
• Plagiarism is considered fraud and is punished with F as the final grade for this course.

In writing your forum entries, please, take into account the following:

• Focus on sociology in your writing; think sociologically by focusing on social factors, society, gender, race, socialization, social inequality, etc.
• Use research from your text to support your ideas and for answers. Do not take the personal experience and then generalize.
• Personal stories can be used as examples, but should not be the focus.
• Use critical thinking skills when writing; use your sociological imagination.
• Don’t forget to cite the used sources!
• Keep in mind that the whole class has access to what you post on forum.
