CURRENT EVENT IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE ASSIGNMENT

For this assignment, you will need to find one article/news story that reports on a crime that has occurred or an update on an ongoing criminal case. The article/news story needs to be current – within two weeks of the due date. You may use newspapers, magazines, or the internet to locate your article. The incident could be local, state, or federal. This assignment should be at least two pages, double-spaced. Be sure to include a work cited (APA format) page as well as a web link/cite to the article you have read. This assignment is due by the end of Week and should be submitted through the Week 3 Assignment module. Assignments submitted late or not submitted through the Week 3 Assignment module will not be accepted.

For this assignment you are to address the following issues in your paper:

The date and source of your article/news story.
A brief summary, in your own words, what occurred, the crime(s) that was committed and the identity of the accused, if known.
Please list the elements of the crime (you may use the eText but please cite).
Are there any defenses being raised on behalf of the defendant and if so what are they (please refer to the eText)?
Identify the source of the crime (please refer to the eText.)
Please provide a commentary. What are your thoughts regarding this case and what is the significance of the case?
This should not be in a question-answer type format. Write your paper in paragraph form using proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure and cite your sources.
