Part 1: Determination of Data/Statistical Analysis Method
All DNP projects evaluate the measurement of results or outcomes of an intervention (clinical practice change) with traditional practice.
Consider how you will evaluate your clinical practice change.
Look at KPI dashboards in your department to see what metrics your organization utilizes to measure the problem that you plan to address with your DNP project.
Think about benchmarks, NDNQI data, etc.
This assignment will build upon your work from DNP 7107. In order to properly develop a plan for your DNP project, you must identify how you will analyze the data.
Select the appropriate statistical analysis method(s). Be specific – will you use a t-test, ANOVA, correlation, etc?
Include a plan for analysis for each variable that you will collect for your DNP project.
For each variable, identify if it is nominal, ordinal, or interval/ratio data.
You should also include which demographic variables you plan to collect (i.e. gender, age, race, type of insurance, level of education, occupation, etc) and how you plan to analyze the data (i.e. mean, median, range, etc). Note, demographic variables must be collected for every DNP project.
Discuss how you plan to utilize an effect size to evaluate the effectiveness of your intervention. Effect sizes have more value than p values with EBP projects.
What will your selected evaluation method tell you? Why will your results matter? (think clinical significance, not statistical significance).
Submit a three to four paragraph summary (for Part 1) of why you selected a specific method(s) and how the results will support your clinical practice change (focus on the clinical significance, not statistical significance).Be sure to focus on the benchmark data that you will be utilizing.
Part 2: Projected Number of Participants
Although DNP projects are not original research, it is important to consider the projected number of participants.
Carefully consider what you plan to evaluate with your DNP project. Consider how many patients or nurses/providers will be eligible to participate in our project. Then submit a two paragraph summary (of part 2) of your proposed number of participants, how you determined it, and how you plan to achieve it. Note: please do not calculate a sample size using a power analysis as this is done with original research, not EBP.
