Discussion 1 – 150 words
The organization for Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner is the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP: The American Association of nurse practitioners). Certifications are obtained from American Nurses Credential Center. Certification is required to practice as a Nurse Practitioner. To be certified in the state of California, candidates need to have a registered nurse license and a graduate degree. According to ANCC, renewing certification every five years provides evidence that the nurse is meeting requirements for continued competence by updating knowledge and showing commitment to lifelong learning. Certification may also be renewed through various professional development and practice activities such as employment. Furthermore, certification renewal is required for ANCC certification credentials to be active. If one chooses not to renew the ANCC certification, then use must be terminated before expiration date. Seventy-five Continuing Education (CE) hours are required for renewal within five years after initial certification (Nursing certifications: Our Certifications). Twenty-five hours out of the seventy-five hours are based on pharmacotherapeutics. The CE credit counts as one in sixty minutes of instructions. Candidates must follow AACNP standards and abide by the Nurse Practice Act as stated on the Board of Nursing.

Discussion 2 – 150 words
My specialty will be family practice. I have chosen American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as my organization. Once completed I will be awarded the title of Family Nurse Practitioner Board Certified (FNP-BC). The requirements for practice include a masters or doctoral degree FNP or a post graduate certificate, current registered nurse license (RN), and at least 500 faculty approved practicum hours. Once obtained the certification must be renewed every 5 years. In order to renew the certification you must have completed 75 continuing education hours with at least 25 of those hours being in pharmacotherapeutics. In addition to that you must complete one or more items from any of 8 categories. The categories are as follows: academic credits, presentations, evidence-based practice or quality improvement project, preceptorship, professional service, practice hours, or an assessment exam.
