After doing the readings in this module, make a case for how you think intelligence should be defined. Be sure to support your opinion (with examples, logic and/or research, etc.) Include an argument for why you think these aspects should be included. What are some of the difficulties involved with coming up with a valid (accurate) definition?
Intelligence is broad
The definition the book gives for intelligence is very well developed, and covers many aspects of intelligence. I believe that the meaning of intelligence is the ability to retain, recall, and use knowledge. Similar to Raymond Cattel’s definition of Fluid and Crystallized intelligence, the more thorough book definition can be extracted from these alternatives. I think the most difficult part of defining intelligence is the wide variety of ways we learn, due to factors such as(but not limited to) home life, education, experiences, and environment. Keeping the definition very high level it can encompass all of the different functions and capabilities of intelligence. This definition also allows more categories to be added easily as our understanding of intelligence grows. As an example, emotional intelligence is a more recent addition to the types of intelligence studied. We can learn how to understand our own emotions and express them to others, so others can understand what we feel. We can also learn to interpret actions of others to understand their emotions. Intelligence
Our minds work so much all the time, sometimes without us even knowing or recognizing it. This weeks subject was very compelling to be because it did make look back to my school history. I remember taking challenging tests and exams , thinking my results would measure my IQ. I always believed that testing someone’s intelligence should not be measured by taking a test. You can always be intelligent and for example, you can be a perfect public speaker , talking in front of hundreds of people and reading high level and then not too good at solving a math problem for your algebra class or figuring out any type of formula for a science class.You can be intelligent in different areas of knowledge. Some can be weaker than others. I also believe in Raymond Cattle definition or form of the term “intelligence”. Overall this was a very smooth like learning subject to learn this week about.
