Tell how your key people/places/events/ideas have influenced you, and then tell us how you’ve worked to “invent yourself” out of them.
To be more specific, answer the following:
-Write about a person (or group of people) who have influenced you, such as a friend, parent, relative, teacher, boss, mentor, or romantic partner.
-Write about a particular incident or experience and how it has influenced you.
-Write about discovering and developing an unknown or unforeseen talent or ability and how it has influenced you.
-Write about the ways in which living up to–or deciding you don’t want to try to live up to–other people’s expectations has influenced you.
The key thing is to write about what has influenced you and how you’ve used that to invent yourself. Sometimes a friend has inspired us to become better, or sometimes a friend’s mistakes have caused us to change our paths in life. The key element is you–you’ve had an influence and you’ve decided how to frame its significance.
