Topic 2: The Proposal to the Board of Directors
You are on the board of directors of the National Training Designers (NTD) organization. You are affiliated with the New York City chapter and have a background in contract training—you have contracted to provide training to government and private business over the last ten years. The organization has 20,000 members in the greater New York City area alone. The board has come to you because they want you to read over a contract proposal submitted by one member of the NTD who wants to be able to make sales calls and be able to say on the phone that he is calling from NTD before he starts his sales pitch. You find out that of the ten board members, six are getting ready to retire and want to be able to do some training design consulting in the next ten years. Although you are keen to stay on the board as it lends credibility on your resume and helps keeps you informed of the latest developments in your field, you are concerned. There seems to be pressure to approve the proposal. The board asks you to consider the proposal and make a recommendation to the board whether it should be approved or not.
What recommendation would you make and why? Explain the ramifications of your decision.
