My background related to human services would be my Bachelors level field work that I did with a local nursing home. Any other experiences I had with the general public would be that in my jobs in retail and customer service. My internship interested me in Macro Practice as I got to see how to individuals were impacted based on the organization and community resources. As the Ted Talk mentioned, social workers are superheroes. We use our talents and resource knowledge to aid in the improved well being of the clients we serve (TEDx Talks, 2015, Apr. 10). For example, when a resident discharged home from our rehabilitation services, we, as in the Social Services department, would make sure they had any durable medical equipment they needed at home, made a follow-up appointment with their doctor, and sent a referral to their home health of choice. The resources come from our bank of knowledge and connections to ensure they are having the best opportunity possible to thrive at home. We would also assess for their mental and emotional capacity while in the building, as well as ensuring their stay within the facility was as comfortable as possible.
