Module 4: Drama Reflective Essay
Directions: Choose one of the topics below and write a three to four page essay.
Make sure you address every point in the question and use textual evidence from
the literature to support your points as well as at least two quotes from two of your
secondary sources. Before planning and drafting your essay, refer to the reflective
essay instructions and grading criteria on pages 5-7 of our syllabus. Also
remember you may not write this essay as a text-submission (i.e. you may not type
your response into this box). You must type your essay as a Word document, use
Save As, browse your computer (below) , and attach the document for submission.
Choice 1: Discuss the theme of resiliency of the human spirit using at least three
characters in the play.
Choice 2: Discuss how upbringing, societal influences, and personal choices have
affected Troy’s life.
Choice 3: Discuss the complexity of at least three central father/son relationships
in the play.
Choice 4: Discuss how the play portrays African-American life in the mid 1950’s in
terms of suffering and sustenance.
Choice 5: Discuss one symbolic aspect of the play – fences, music or baseball – and
how it conveys at least three key themes.
