Ethical/Legal Dilemma
Case Study: You are a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and working with a 43-year-old female for the past several months. She has presented symptoms of anxiety and depression. Today she has disclosed to you that she is so frustrated with her husband that she often fantasizes about killing him. She owns a handgun and describes using the handgun in her fantasy to kill her husband. She shares that she appreciates being able to trust you with this dark secret that she knows she wouldn’t be able to talk to anyone else about.
Assignment Part II: In this phase of your case study I will ask you to research legal statutes and ethical codes that relate to the case presented. What Florida state laws and statutes relate to the case? Do other States have different legal requirements? The helping profession consists of a variety of different boards such as psychologists, psychiatrists, mental health counselors, guidance counselors, social workers, and religious counselors. In this case you are a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. You will need to research ethical codes and guidelines established for LMHC’s. Additionally, I would like you to pick one other helping profession to compare and contrast ethical codes and guidelines with. You may copy and paste the statute and code numbers in your paper, but DO NOT copy and paste all the verbiage of the statute or code as I am grading you on your interpretation and application of the language to the case presented.
