Evaporative cooling vs.Central Air conditioning
Each student will select a building environmental or service category (heating, cooling, lighting, sanitation, acoustics, etc) and compare at least two separate systems that address the chosen building environmental or service category. For example: Indoor thermal comfort can be achieved in cold climates by providing heating (building environmental category) in buildings using hydronic or forced air systems (2 systems). Prepare an analytical research paper based on a scientific paper format; the paper should be structured as follows:
1) Introduction: generally describes the selected category in relation buildings and outlines its history.
2) Methodology: identifies systems for comparison and outlines the method for comparing the systems with relation to common variables such as installation and/or operation cost, efficiency, size, longevity, climatic viability, etc.
3) Analysis: summarizes each system and directly and objectively compares both system’s variables.
4) Discussion: describes and evaluates the pro’s and con’s of each system in relation to other buildings system or service categories, building typologies, and the general design decision process.
5) Conclusion: indicates which system is preferred by the author and why. This section should include what you learned about the subject matter and why it was of interest to you.
