Field Readiness Assignment
Description: This paper provides students with the opportunity to engage in a critical self-reflective process to determine their level of readiness prior to entering the field of social services in a professional capacity.
Instructions:
1. a. The intent of this paper is to increase your awareness of the qualities and behaviours considered necessary for a professional social service worker so that you know what behaviours you may need to work on to be ready for the field placement experience.
b. There are no right or wrong answers however you will be graded on your ability to selfreflect.
2. Read “Information for Social Service Worker”. Using critical self-reflection skills, answer the following questions in complete sentences and paragraphs (total of 5 pages). Please use headings to allow for greater organization of writing.
a. How ready are you feeling to work remotely? (think of practical, mental, and emotional readiness).
b. What challenges do you anticipate in applying communication skills when engaging with clients remotely?
c. How ready are you to work with minimal supervision? How do you plan to address this challenge?
d. What self-care mechanisms will you consider to maintain your mental, emotional and physical health when working remotely?
e. What strengths do you hold that will support your placement learning experience? (personality attributes, personal and professional skills, prior knowledge, etc.)
