You work for a small law office and are the official “tech guru”. Your office has eight (8) PCs running Windows 10. You have a standard business optimum connection. You have a moderately priced Linksys router. It has been suggested that your office uses a “real” firewall. However the costs are prohibitive according to your employer. Research two firewall open source distributions: PFSense and OPNSense. Your task is that you make a recommendation to your employer that suggests using one of these distributions.
Requirements:
1. Research PFSense and OPNsense
2. You will need to thoroughly review these distributions to understand how they work and meet the requirements of the assignment.
3. Choose one of these distributions
4. Determine exactly what hardware you will need to run this distribution.
5. This includes RAM, CPU, Disk Size, Routers/Switches and NIC cards.
6. Obtain costs and include them in your presentation. You may choose to use https://pcpartpicker.com/ to obtain baseline prices.
7. Explain why an open source firewall distribution may be a better choice than out of the box routers and firewalls
8. Your employer is a lawyer, not an IT guy! Remember this fact when creating your presentation.
9. You need to be able to explain the more difficult concepts of what is being proposed
10. Create a PowerPoint for your employer that meets the above criteria. 8 to 10 slides. Formatted and visually appealing. Images including a proper network diagram are required. You can use Cisco packet tracer if you like and take screenshots, or another product such as Visio.
