Function, Issues, and Impacts for Jails and Prisons & Twitter Forum: Issues in State Corrections

This assignment pertains to a two-part discussion for my Corrections class for Criminal justice. The first discussion requirements will be listed below, followed by the second discussion. The references needed will be attached in the MATERIALS files, along with the login info for the textbook that will need to be referenced. First discussion – Function, Issues, and Impacts for Jails and Prisons This discussion includes two parts as follows: -Part 1: The Supreme Court has held that prisons may restrict the constitutional rights of incarcerated persons where the restriction is connected to a legitimate penological interest. Provide an example of this idea when incarcerated persons’ constitutional rights may be restricted for a legitimate jail function. Is it fair that incarcerated persons’ rights may be restricted by prison administrators? Why or why not? -Part 2: Define the difference between jail and prison. Discuss a criminal justice issue that relates to punishment, rehabilitation, supervision, or treatment. In addition, explain how the criminal justice issue relates to a social justice issue. For example, you could discuss a criminal justice issue that led to punishment as a jail sentence. If the criminal offense suggests the need for treatment or rehabilitation, you could then consider whether a jail sentence addresses social justice issues. – This discussion needs to at minimum have a word count of 250 words. Second Discussion – Twitter Forum: Issues in State Corrections Prior to beginning work on this discussion, review a state’s department of corrections Twitter. You can consider any of the Twitter pages for state correctional departments listed in the Recommended Resources for this week or you can do an Internet search to locate a specific state’s department of corrections Twitter page. I’ve chosen the SOUTH CAROLINA DEPT. OF CORRECTIONS. The Twitter page must be the official account of that state department of corrections. For example, you could explore Tweets from one of the Twitter pages listed in the resource list for Week 2, or you could review the department of corrections’ Twitter page for a state of your choosing. Select a Tweet and explain how its content relates to a social justice issue and a criminal justibcqce issue in state corrections.
