group proposal
Each student will write an individual paper demonstrating their ability to conceptualize and outline a possible task or treatment group. You are writing a proposal that details the needs, recruitment of group members, types of sessions, etc. of this potential group. You will be graded on spelling/grammar, the four sections of the paper, and including at least three sources (citations) related to your group topic (one source has to be scholarly/peer-reviewed).
You should write this paper like you were really proposing this treatment or task group to an agency, school, community, etc. The group should be one that you personally could realistically lead and that strives to improve the well-being of a specific group/population.
Break your paper up into these four sections, include these headings, and answer these questions:
Overview
* What unmet need of this population will the group seek to fill; what is the purpose of the group?
* How will you share information about the group (i.e., recruit group members) with potential group members and referral sources?
* What organization policies or politics will you need to consider as you develop this group?
Group Members
* What is the anticipated group composition (describe the potential group members; e.g., age, gender, ethnicity, emotional level, socioeconomic status)? * What inclusion criteria will you use? What are the exclusion criteria that would rule out participation?
Group Session Focus and Dynamics
* How will you focus the group sessions (e.g., how will the group goals be reached)? * What individual and group dynamics do you anticipate among group members and facilitator (be thoughtful and creative here – apply your knowledge of the population and the problems being addressed in this group). What dynamics will you need to be prepared to address? *(You can use Chapter 3 from our textbook to help with this one)
Evaluation
* How will you evaluate the group’s effectiveness? Be specific, write out questions if you can. Include more than one kind of evaluation.
