Final Anthology Paper

This paper should respond to questions inspired by our assigned readings and class discussions, in approx. 7 pages.

Essay topic:

For many class sessions, our syllabus lists questions for you to consider while preparing the homework. (These are marked with a ?). This paper is to be an anthology of your responses to these questions.

To begin, read through the questions posed throughout the syllabus, both for past sessions and for sessions yet to come. Choose several that interest you. (I anticipate that you will choose about six questions, writing a one-page response to each. However, you can respond to more or fewer questions, as long as you are on target with the page requirement.) Feel free to take positions that disagree with the readings and/or our class discussions. I will grade the paper based on the depth of your thought and the persuasiveness of your argument. Most of the questions have multiple reasonable answers.

In addition to the answers to the questions, your paper will need an introduction that places these questions in context. I am leaving the content of this introduction unspecified. But, it should tie the different answers together in some way.

No additional research is required beyond the readings assigned for the class topic you choose, but you may cite additional sources if you wish.

NOTE: If you do any research outside of our assigned readings, be skeptical of information you find on the web. Also, be wary of any texts that have an overtly theological bias. If you are in doubt about a source, e-mail me.

To write your paper:

Ensure that your paper contains an introduction, plus the answers to multiple syllabus questions. If you cite any sources (including from our textbooks or assigned readings), you must provide a bibliography.

Please use 12-point Times New Roman font for everything, double-space your paragraphs, and set your margins to 1″.

Submit your paper via Canvas by the beginning of class on Monday, November 23. (You may also submit it anytime earlier.) Each calendar day a paper is late will result in a 7-point grade deduction (e.g., 91% becomes 84%). I will not give extensions except in truly extraordinary circumstances, or unless you have a documented disability that allows you extensions (and we have already discussed this possibility). Please prepare early to avoid any COVID-related disruptions to the end of your semester.
