At the top of the page, please bold your thesis statement that contains your blueprint. For example, I might write:
The three major causes for concussions in youth football are poor tackling techniques, old and out-of-date equipment, and lack of awareness from participants.
Note that my thesis contains the word causes or effects. It contains my subject (concussions in youth football), and my blueprint has two four main points. (I included three here – poor tackling techniques, old and out-of-date equipment, and lack of awareness from participants.)
Once you have written your thesis with blueprint, you are ready to begin your annotated bibliography. This can all be within the same paper. Your title for the entire assignment could be Thesis and Annotated Bibliography
Thesis portion = 3 points
An annotated bibliography contains three things: 1) your source listed in MLA format, 2) a short summary of your source, and 3) how you will specifically use information from this source.
First, list the sources you are committed to using for your cause or effect paper. This means you have carefully read each article and decided that it is going to support your major points. (If an article does not have quotes you’d like to use, find a different source.) Write the source in correct MLA format.
Second, underneath your MLA citation, please start a new paragraph. This will be a five – seven sentence summary of the article. (Remember, summaries paraphrase the author’s information.)
Third, tell how you will use specific information in specific sections of your paper. For example, you might say… In my first body section about poor tackling techniques, I am going to use the following quote “Blah Blah Blah” (42). This third step is going to be helpful when you go to write your rough draft. You will already know which quotes go in which section.
Annotated Bibliography Portion = 24 points (6 pts X 4 sources)
