Morality and the good life

In this assignment, you will critically reflect on what you have learned about morality through your own experience. The focus should be on your personal understanding of the two concepts – (1) morality and (2) the good life – and your own assessment of the relationship between these concepts. Your paper, by definition, is a combination of personal understanding and critical analysis. This means that the paper should reflect your views by highlighting significant experiences (personal and communal) that have helped to shape your understanding of the two concepts as well as examine how these concepts connect to each other. The following questions may serve as a guide.

What comes to mind when you hear the concepts “morality” and “the good life”?
How would you assess the connection between morality and the good life? For instance, some people believe that living a good life depends on developing and practicing sound moral principles. To what extend do you agree with such a view? What other connection/s do you see between the two concepts?
What life experiences have helped to shape your own understanding of “morality” and “the good life”? For instance, how were you introduced to these concepts and who was/were involved in the process?
Do you think that morality restricts human freedom or that it makes us freer?
Finally, what specific question/s about morality and the good life would you like the Christian Community to address in order to stay relevant and effective in contemporary society? Think of this as question/s or issue/s you would likely research for your final paper. (Surely, your specific topic will take shape or even change all together in the course of the semester, and that’s fine. But thinking about broad question/s or issue/s at this time can guide your learning in this course).
