Organizational Culture and Leadership in Higher Education
For the course project, you will decipher the culture of a college or university using the model presented in Chapter 5 of Schein’s (2010) Organizational Culture and Leadership (see Exhibit 5.1 on page 74): mission and strategy, goals, means, measurement, and correction.
After choosing a college or university you will write a 5-7 page research paper using APA style, inclusive of the following:
Assuming the role of a consultant, review as much information as you can about the college or university.
Describe the culture of the college or university.
Analyze its culture using the five factors of mission and strategy, goals, means, measurement, and correction.
Describe its artifacts, espoused beliefs and values, and basic assumptions.
Explore its successes and opportunities.
Determine what needs to be changed and make suggestions for change.
List your sources of evidence and explain the process of your research.
Identify your own biases and how these influenced your analysis and decisions.
The final project is due at the end of Unit 4 and is worth 20% of your final grade.
