Prior to writing your paper for this course, I am requiring you to submit a brief proposal, filmography and bibliography course. And before submitting these to me, I’d like you to run them–or at least ideas for them–by your group. (Later, in the final two group discussions, you will do the same with the paper itself and the presentation.)

First, post about your ideas for the film and/or topic you want to wrote about.Maybe you have an idea for a thesis, maybe you only have an idea for which film–probably one of your favorites–you want to focus on.

Second, respond to others’ ideas, ideally suggesting how they can improve them. You might identify problems you see with their plans or mention how other material from the course so far might be relevant to what they want to do. If it turns out that two or more of you are planning to write on the same film or about the same topics–e.g. stereotypes, transportation, adaptation of language, cinematography, sound etc etc–then you may be able to have a more extended discussion. Otherwise try to keep separate threads going for each proposal discussion.

Here are the requirements for the proposal, filmography and bibliography :

The proposal can be as short as a single page or quite a bit longer depending on the extent to which you can envisage your paper in advance. You should aim to include at least two films in the filmography even if your main emphasis will be on just the one. Some of you may have many more. Finally, a bibliography should include at least three sources that you believe will be useful for your project.

2. Respond to at least two posts by other members of your group. If you have not seen the film someone is writing about you may still be able to suggest a comparison with another film–or just something else to look for.

3. Feel free of course to make comments/give input to as many of your fellow group members as possible. There will probably be separate threads springing form each person’s proposal idea.
