SOC 401-001 Social Theory Photo Analysis Paper In this assignment, you will demonstrate your ability to analyze a photograph using sociological theory. You will take a photograph of something related to coronavirus, and then, drawing on course readings and discussions, you will discuss the photograph using a theoretical lens. This photo analysis paper is worth 20% of the course grade. Basic Requirements: • You must take a photograph yourself of something related to coronavirus or Covid-19. You are not to use any image from the internet. • The analysis has a minimum of 1000 words; try to limit your response to 1200 words o Times New Roman, 12-inch font, 1 inch margins, double-spaced o Proper in-text citations and reference page (papers go through turnitin.com) • Submit paper (include the photograph within the paper) through Moodle Responses should be structured in the following manner: 1. Description of Photograph: First 200-300 words (approximately) • Provide your reader a short summary about the photograph. Explain the setting, what is going on in the photograph, why this caught your attention, etc. • Please assume the reader is generally unaware of the situation captured by the photograph and share enough so it is understandable. 2. Analysis: Remaining 900-1000 words (approximately) • You are to analyze the photograph using theories and theorists specifically being covered this quarter. o You can select one theory/theorist or compare/contrast two or more. o You should refer to your photo throughout this section, weaving it into your analysis to show your reader how to see it through sociological theory. • Your paper should demonstrate your ability to look at an everyday occurrence related to the coronavirus and/or Covid-19 through the theoretical lens of your choice. This means your analysis does not consist of opinions, but instead, it is the application of sociological material. • You must provide in-text citations from the textbook or course PowerPoints for your use of theory throughout your paper. • You should also have a reference page that matches your in-text citations. Any text on the references page is not included in the word count. • You should not use any other outside sources; if you do, you may receive a zero on your paper. These papers are to be submitted through Moodle by 11:59 p.m. on the due date. If these assignments are submitted late, there will be a late penalty assessed (see rubric).
