Political Party Preference

In order to complete this assignment (test), you will be expected to decide which political party most closely reflects your beliefs. In your opening paragraph, describe the process that you went through to reach a conclusion. As supporting details, you will be expected to select three (3) specific topics that you feel are the core of your belief system. These topics will become your three (3) bolded sub-headings of one paragraph each. Examples of topics might be: welfare, social security, abortion, medical care, gun control, the environment, etc. For each topic, describe the stand of your political party of choice. Then, explain how the opposing party responds to this issue. Finally, explain which stance reflects your personal views (cite specific examples). In some circumstances, the party may not reflect your personal views. In such a case, you may explain how the party does NOT support your opinions. If, however, the majority of your positions are contrary to the party platform, you may have selected the wrong party. (INTRO – 10 points)

Education (or whatever other issue you chose):

Start your paragraph here by describing the stance of your party on the first topic (such as education). Then, explain the stance of the opposing party. Finally, support your decision by citing specific examples or details (a minimum of three sentences would be appropriate). Make sure that you end each section with a one-sentence conclusion. Each supporting section will be worth 25 points.

Welfare (as an example):

Gun Control (as an example):

The third paragraph starts here…..and so forth…until you complete the 3 required body sections worth 25 points each.

Conclusion:

After completing the 3 sections (1 paragraph per section, 25 points per section) and the introduction (worth 10 points), you may write a really great conclusion (worth another 5 points). Make sure that you summarize the entire paper and restate the reasons for selecting the political party. You may have realized that the content of this assignment will be worth 90 points. An additional 10 points will be assessed for appropriate formatting of the paper (margins, fonts, spacing, etc.). Deductions of 5 – 20 points will be taken for improper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure. Yes, English does count, just as it did for the materials you read preparing for this assignment.
