Primary Source Compare/Contrast Paper Assignment

I already have the three sources i’ve selected. I will send it later with the rest of the instructions when the order is made. General Overview & Instructions: The purpose of the paper is to compare information in your Source from the Past with information on the same topic written by a modern historian. Generally, you will first explain what your Source from the Past says. These Sources from the Past may include personal feelings or may not contain all relevant factual information because the author was an eyewitness to an event and didn’t have all information. You will then compare the content of your source to a scholarly source that you choose which will be an analysis of the event using all available sources of information, and conforming to modern standards of impartiality and objectivity. You will use this scholarly source to describe the event and how the information in your Source from the Past or the opinions expressed by the author of your Source from the Past are similar to or different from the facts in your scholarly source. This paper is worth 15% of your final grade for this course. All parts of this assignment must be typed and submitted to the appropriate assignment as a Microsoft Word file (.doc or .docx) in order to be graded and receive any comments. Assignments submitted as a different file type will earn late penalties until submitted correctly. The paper must be double-spaced and contain a minimum 1000 words of text in the body of your paper, which does not include any information on your title page, page numbers, footnotes, anything in a header, etc. (This is approximately three (3) complete pages in length.) Must be typed and submitted as one Microsoft Word file (i.e. a .doc or .docx file type). This means your title page and bibliography cannot be separate files and cannot be submitted separately. Use 1 Inch Margins. Use 12 point Times New Roman Font. Must also have a title page for your paper which does not count in the required word count. This will be the first page of your file. Must have a bibliography or works cited page, which does not count in the required word count. All sources must be cited in Chicago Manual of Style format in the bibliography or it will be considered plagiarism. This will be the last page of your file and must be a separate page All information and quotations must be cited, within the paper itself at the bottom of each page, as footnotes in Chicago Manual of Style format or it will be considered plagiarism.Your paper must have a clear, specific thesis statement at the end of your paper’s first paragraph which states the findings of your paper (i.e. how, specifically, are the two sources similar or different). This is a formal paper, so should be written using formal language. This means you should write it as if you were submitting it to someone very important that you did not know (ex. the owner of a major company, the President, the Queen of England, etc) and not to a friend. o Practically, this means no contractions, no personal pronouns (I, me, my, we, our, you), and no slang (also known as colloquial expressions). o You should also proofread it very carefully to be sure it has no typos, grammar errors, or places where you are unclear. One way to do this is to read it aloud to a friend who is not in the class and has not read your Source from the Past. They will be able to tell you if they can understand what your source is about, what your argument is, and the point of all of your sentences. All papers will be evaluated using TurnItIn to check for instances of plagiarism.
