There tends to be some confusion with the week three PowerPoint assignment. I do realize that most of you do not ordinarily use the speaker notes when you create a PowerPoint presentation, however, in these assignments you are using academic writing skills combined with APA formatting rules to demonstrate to us what you know and understand about the topics. Rather than an actual paper on these topics, we feel the PowerPoints are more dynamic and useful to you in your respective roles. That being said, here are a few pointers to help you:
When you open a new ppt. file, count off 10 slides, making the first slide your title slide, the second slide your introduction, and the last slide your reference slide. Don’t forget to have a summary slide as the next to the last slide. This leaves 6 slides for content. Every slide, including the introduction and summary, should have speaker’s notes.
Carefully review the assignment rubric for specific details, including the assignment objectives. Place each of the objectives on a slide to make sure you address all of the content.
Each slide should have about 3-5 bullet points addressing the main points of the slide, and add an icon or photo of the slide’s theme. Be sure to follow APA guidelines with citations of images.
In the speaker’s notes, write like you are writing your initial response to a discussion question. This should be about 300-350 words and written with an academic/professional tone, including citations. The references of course go on the reference slide. You can use the book (recommended) as a reference, and also look up one or two current (3-5 years) articles from an authoritative source (journals, authoritative websites). Think of this like an academic paper, but in a ppt. file.
Carefully check the Purdue Owl to make sure you have the APA format of the references and citations correct.
