“Primary Enhancement Strategies”
1) Take a look at the list of suggested ‘interventions’ that focus on savoring, found on p. 424, 425. Most of these things could be used immediately in your own life, and with education and practice, could be put to fruitful use in others’ lives. Reflect on this list and the suggestions on the next section on “secondary enhancement” (pp 428-432). This seems to be as good of a summary as any of our course’s major themes and ideas. Will you make a personal pledge to enact ONE of these strategies in your life right now? Which one? How will you be able to persist in using this idea? Share your insights (3 points).
2) Instead of being so fascinated with abnormal behavior, why do you think we aren’t more in awe of all the things that “go right” in our lives? (2 points).
3) Share a few aspects of your life that are going well or that you feel is going in the right direction. Alternatively, you can reflect on good decisions you made in the past that have worked for positive growth (increasing resiliency, self-efficacy, optimism, courage, improvement in relationships, etc.) in any domain of your life (romantic or non-romantic relationships, occupation, education, physical, or emotional/spiritual health). You can draw from prior chapter readings or Chickering’s six other developmental goals (pp. 390-393) for traditional students (3 points).
4) As you reflect on the course, what THREE things/pieces of knowledge/experiences stand out as information that will live on with you? Be specific about describing why and provide a brief explanation of the concept(s) you are drawing from.
