Qualitative Research Project: Final Analysis Paper

Qualitative research is based on many different research methods that have been widely used among different researchers from various disciplines. Many researchers attempt to conduct extensive research to collect qualitative data and materials that will become the basis of their research findings and theories by extensively using qualitative methods. Therefore, conducting research without clear research questions and plan is risky and not recommended.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, students are not allowed to conduct any research activity that involves in-person, face-to- face contact.

INSTRUCTIONS: Final Analysis Paper

1) When choosing research method(s), you should consider each of the following as a requirement: Choose research methods considering

[A] Interview
[B] Surveys
[C] Life story

2) Carefully review “Research Project Design” as the basis for Final Analysis Paper.

3) Conduct a small research project that uses one or more qualitative research methods.

4) In the Final Analysis Paper, you need to include all of the following information:
☑︎ Identify first your research questions, the title of your research, and the chosen qualitative method(s).
☑︎ Write (appx. 350 words) free-style notes and reflections about your overall research experience of practicing method(s) such as challenges, positive aspects, etc.
☑︎ Write (appx. 350 words) informative answers to the following:
→Summarize the most important findings from results of research data collection (e.g. direct quotes).
→Explain the meanings and implications of your findings in relation to your research questions.

5) In addition, submit the documents relevant to used methods along with Final Analysis paper:
[A] Interview: submit a copy of your interview questions used in your research.

[B] Surveys: submit a copy of your survey.

[C] Life story: submit a copy of your questions to the narrator (storyteller) and a brief introduction (background) about her/him (using a pseudonym is fine).

EXAMPLE:
Student BZ is interested in the types of stress management among the students at ASU West. BZ wants to know what kinds of stressors students currently deal with and how they try to better manage their problems. Below are examples of the methods BZ could use to conduct research on this subject:

[A] BZ decides to conduct a qualitative interview with one or two students who take the same SBS 302 Qualitative Methods class. BZ believes that the interview method is effective for learning about the sources of the students’ current stress in greater detail and will allow him/her to find more information about possible solutions by asking follow-up questions during the interview.

[B] BZ decides to a conduct survey with three or four students who take the same SBS 302 Qualitative Methods class. BZ wants to ask multiple questions to identify the sources of the stress in order to suggest some possible solutions. BZ believes that surveys can be used to ask multiple questions and obtain a good amount of information on the topic in relatively short period of time. BZ will create a short online survey by using Google Form and distribute it to the students who volunteered to participate by e-mail.

[C] BZ wants to collect a life story of a student to whom s/he was introduced by one of her/his friends. BZ is interested in the possible relationship between the student’s childhood memories and the stress that the student currently experiences. BZ will specifically ask the student to talk about any negative experiences from his/her early childhood that still impacts his/her daily lives.

For the final analysis paper, BZ will focus on finding any repeated themes in the answers given by the respondents. BZ will also find several key words based on the collected materials and examine them based on the problems raised in the original research questions.
