This week’s search began with my research question, “What personality traits are more successful within distance learning vs. the brick-and-mortar classroom”. Using the keywords, Personality / Higher Education or College or University or Post-Secondary or Postsecondary / Literature Review, I found very little related to my topic. Though research has been conducted, it seems that few reviews have been performed. I had to choose two, so I chose the following:

1. Rinn, A. N., & Plucker, J. A. (2019). High-Ability College Students and Undergraduate Honors Programs: A Systematic Review. Journal for the Education of the Gifted, 42(3), 187–215. Research found a surge in research on high-ability students and undergraduate honors programs suggesting high interest. Most of these articles related personality traits, in various ways, with success for both groups. Further research suggests a collaboration across both groups.I was not able to find any research suggesting a study collaborating both high-abilitystudents and undergraduate honors programs, therefore, I believe this still remains a gap. The fact that this study was just completed last year has not given enough time for the literature to become available.

2. Wilson, S. D. (2016). Lack of Persistence in College and the High-Achieving, Low-Income Student: A Review of the Literature. Community College Enterprise, 22(2), 42–51. Research found that psychosocial factors like conscientiousness showed a strong relationship when it came to continuing their education. Further research recommended on relationship between High-Achieving, Low-income students and psychosocial factors.A search on psychosocial factors and conscientiousness led me to only one article, which was not related to my topic. I tried many different key words, but it seems that there is very little relating education, low-income, and conscientiousness or psychosocial factors.

The fact that neither of my searches looking for a gap within the literature produced anything relevant, I am thinking there is a definite gap. However, knowing that I initially could not even find reviews on any literature focused on my specific subject, I will have to do an actual literature review, myself, to find the gap within personality traits and success in higher education.
