Introduction:
One paragraph, highlighting the main findings of the paper, the main techniques used, and its importance to chemical biology. Use active voice, keep it short, and be sure to use your own words. Clear writing = beautiful writing.
Background:
1-2 paragraphs. What chemical biology questions(s) does this work address? what other things have been done in the past? You should cite a few ( more than one and fewer than five ) other related papers that helped you understand the context. It’s fine to use figures from other papers as long as you cite them. However, test should be all written in your words.
Key experiments and discussion:
Choose the most important experiments to summarize. Copy/paste important figures ( and cites them ) so that you can refer to them in the text. Write your own figure caption, do not plagiarize the ones from the paper. Be sure to identify the key techniques. Explain positive and negative controls or other quality control measures as appropriate.
Remaining question: what do you think this paper leaves unanswered? what would you do next if it were your project?
