Rhetorical Analysis
DIRECTIONS: Write a Rhetorical Analysis of an article of your choice. Here are your options:
1. Analyze a LONG-FORM (Links to an external site.) article related to the topic you wrote about in the last two discussion posts.

Your analysis should address the following:
What is the central claim of the text?
How does the author structure his/her argument? How does he/she “present his/her case”?
All the appeals we have studied in class are evident in the articles: pathos, ethos, and logos. How do they employ them? You may focus on an example of each one, or focus on multiple examples of just one.
Are there instances of bias in this text?
What argumentative fallacies do you notice?
Based on your answer to the above questions, what is your overall evaluation of this texts? Is it successful? Why?

Use the data you gathered from the rhetorical analysis worksheet to develop your analysis
Though the questions above are the ones most intrinsic to your own analysis and evaluation, much of the information in Ch. 6’s overview of the Rhetorical Analysis are also important. Consider this carefully as you formulate a thesis.
Ch. 6’s “Yellow Pages” at its end have sample Rhetorical Analyses, though it is different than the one you will be writing. Still, feel free to use it as a model. Similarly, Ch. 10’s overview of Evaluative Arguments (which we will cover later) might also be helpful.
Research is not required for this assignment, but in-text citation is. Please use MLA style.
Use The Little Seagull or applicable grammar reference book for any grammar or formatting trouble spots.
Requirements:
This essay must be typed. Please do not use font larger than 12 point.
It must be 3-5 pages double-spaced.
Please include a title and highlight the thesis.
