Spanish-American War Journal (50 points): Prepare a 3-4 page response to the following scenario. Scenario: Based on the video The Spanish-American War, (in course videos) prepare a journal that chronicles the daily life of a common American soldier during the Spanish-American War. You may choose any scenario you like- -the daily drudgery of soldiering, the horror of battle, battlefield nursing, or anything else that interests you. Use your mind and be creative! Take the reader through what you believe might be the typical “week/month/year in the life of” the common soldier in this conflict. You have a great deal of latitude with this assignment. Have fun, use your imagination, and be creative! Guidelines: See the sample journal I posted!!! Be sure to include the following elements: Headnotes: One good paragraph (five good sentences is standard) at the beginning of your journal that is set apart from the rest of the text. Tell the reader who your fictional character is and a few things about him/her. Italicize the headnotes please!!! Several Dated Entries: Remember to add the place as well. For example: June 12, 1898, Daiquiri, Cuba. Each entry should be at least one good paragraph in length (but not more than two). End Notes: One good paragraph (five good sentences is standard) at the end of your journal that is set apart from the rest of the text. Tell the reader what ultimately happened to the author. Italicize the endnotes please!!! I expect you to write in first person for journal assignments (though not your exams), because you are taking the reader on a journey through the eyes of a fictitious character. Consult the video for ideas, but the entire journal must be the product of your imagination!!!! You are writing historical fiction for this assignment, so there is no need to provide a bibliography.
