The idea of “book deserts” and using demographic research
Being tasked to encourage more people to read good books may seem simple and yet it’s become quite a task to determine the best way to encourage people. My group decided to focus on the idea of book deserts, which are areas that make the idea of obtaining reading material quite difficult. The reason we decided to focus on this idea is because these are real things that are scattered throughout the country and create a huge damper on the idea of trying to encourage reading good books. We decided that to conquer the problem it was good to start with one of the many origins of why there’s been a decrease in reading good books. I’ve decided to argue that the best way to reach these dry book deserts is to look at the problem demographically and give it tons of context as to maybe why they have become book deserts in the first place as well as showing how important the idea of demographics can be used in such research. Although most of my focus pertains to demographics I believe that this research will be the water to heal the deserts.
