Part One
Background
Pick an industry, and consider the possibility of starting a new business within that industry. As an entrepreneur, how do you see web services as a strategic force when considering entry barriers to the industry?

Post One

Web services are information exchange systems that refer to software components using universal Web communication standards and languages. The foundation technology for Web services is Extensible Markup Language (XML). Web services can exchange information between two different systems regardless of the operating systems or programming languages.
They can be used to build applications that link systems of two different organizations or within a single organization. That is to say, they are available over the Internet or private networks (Laudon & Laudon, 2016, P.195)
Web services are lowering entry cost and removing barriers to entry for many businesses. For example, the use of web services is one of the strategic forces that affect online banking industry. The information intensity of the products and services is a key element, which requires a higher frequency of contact with customers to achieve effective communication. Web services provide not only a direct contact between the organization and its customers but also present an opportunity for innovation in both the manufacturability and delivery of products. In addition to supporting internal and external integration of systems, web services can be used as tools for building new information system applications or enhancing existing systems. However, some of the traditional banking industry has been slow to join the trend. It is therefore imperative that the roles of web services in innovation and development in new products and services (Smith, 2006).

Post Two

Web service is a software system that is used for information exchange and it was built based on the standardized Extensible Markup Language (XML) system. Web service system is a usually self-contained, dynamic applications that could be described, published, located or invoked over the network to create the products or supply chains.

The industry that I will start will be the food delivery company. Currently the food delivery industry is promising due to the change of the life habit and current COVID-19 situation. By incorporating the web service into this industry, it will expand the market and make it more accessible, especially to the younger generation.

There are some entry barriers when incorporating the web service into this food delivery industry:
Large cost of the initial build up of the web service. This structural barriers regarding the finance and cost is the first barriers that I need to consider. Lots of cost need to be invested in the early stage of research and development, along with the social media advertisement.
The loyalty of the customers. How to keep the customers engaged in my company in this competitive environment is another factor to consider. How to make my food delivery company to be more attractive and engaged in my customer population and how to use the advantages of the web service to maintain my customers
