Prompt: You are an endocrinologist and study the impact hormone imbalances have on the other systems of the body. One of your patients, 18-year-old Jane, states that she is plagued by nausea, thirst, and amenorrhea. Jane lacks energy and has difficulty concentrating, although indicates she has been eating and drinking regularly. Her urinary frequency is high and she looks underdeveloped for her age.
Based on these symptoms, choose one disease to diagnose Jane with:
Diabetes mellitus
Diabetes insipidus
Turner’s syndrome
Through this 2-part discussion with your classmates, you will state your diagnosis, explain the disease, and why you chose it using appropriate and sufficient evidence. Your explanation should include what tests to run to confirm your diagnosis, the cause of the disease, impact on the anatomy and physiology of the body, demographics, symptoms, any current research, prescribe a course of treatment, and give a prognosis.
You will respond to your classmates’ posts to convince them why they should agree with your diagnosis. You may also be convinced by a classmate to switch your initial diagnosis. In other words, you need to know why your diagnosis is correct and why the other diseases would not be.
Remember, no answer is one hundred percent correct so you are not saying that others are wrong, but instead why your diagnosis is optimal based on evidence. Each disease could be valid.
Module 4: Initial Post (Worth up to 70 points)
· Length: 250-500 words
· 12pt font
· All sources (3 required) must be properly cited (see APA source citation below)
· State and explain your choice. When stating the evidence, consider the challenges that others may have to your evidence and how you could counter those respectful challenges.
Submission:
The paper MUST be submitted via the submission link in Blackboard and you must submit your initial post as a Word document attachment. Do not write, or copy and paste your submission directly in the discussion board forum thread. Submissions will not be accepted if turned in any other way or if it is not in the correct format.
The submission link will check your paper for plagiarism using SafeAssign software. Any paper showing more than 25% plagiarism will be an automatic zero (this means even if you cite your sources, your writing must be in your own words).
Plagiarism:
Plagiarism is using another person’s ideas and/or writings without acknowledging that you are doing so and is a serious offense. All students should take all precautions to ensure that no plagiarism, intentional or unintentional, is present in their work.
Plagiarism includes (but is not limited to)
Quoting a source word-for-word without enclosing the material in quotation marks (even if you cite the source).
Summarizing an article by copying from the abstract or critical summary (even if you cite the article).
Paraphrasing closely another’s writing (e.g. modifying sentences slightly but expressing the same ideas with copied phrases) even if you cite the source.
Using another author’s points about a topic without acknowledging that you are doing so, and/or reviewing exactly the same studies in the same way (e.g., using a criticism or essay or textbook treatment of a topic as the basic outline for your paper and reviewing only the studies that the author used and making the same criticisms that the author does). It is fine to get a general idea for a topic from a text or other source, but you must then develop and cover the topic in your own way.
Students are expected
To use their own ideas and their own words in any paper they write.
To write about material they have read but express their own understanding and their own comments on it.
To use occasional quotations but to identify them as quotations.
To avoid close paraphrasing which is not their own writing. Using more than five (5) consecutive words from the original source without using quotation marks reflects close paraphrasing (i.e. to take an author’s writing and to change a few words here and there). This is not acceptable even if the student cites a reference.
APA Source Citation
You must use at least 3 reputable scientific references to support your post (not including your textbook- if you use your textbook, you must also cite it). Reputable sources= peer reviewed scientific journal articles, accredited websites, or books. Google, Wikipedia, etc. are not acceptable sources.
Your information must be credible, accurate, and well supported by evidence. The best sources of information are the research journals and the books as well as webpages
