1st paragraph main argument/intro-
During the 1960s-70s, the U.S underwent many political and racial/gender issues that we still talk and may deal with today. The 1960s was only the beginning. From the fight for civil rights for African Americans to women’s rights in domestic policy and the anti-war movement in foreign policy. These efforts are what brought us to where America stands today. These issues matter and will always matter due to the current political debates and racial segregation there is still lingering around. These historical issues that will be talked about gives us a better understanding of what exactly the U.S is facing and how to address the conflicts.
2nd paragraph ideas- (African American civil rights)
The 1960s was a turning point for African Americans in the fight for their civil rights.
Example 1 source: SNCC “Black Power:” The SNCC were determined to bring awareness to the myth that black folk are naturally bad, and are lazy and are “incapable of liberating themselves.” The SNCC argued that it is just a false myth and that there needs to be more coloreds in power, that they also bring many talents and intellect to the table. This was discussed and brought straight to the point of page 1 of the document. They wanted to spread the notion to the American people to not be fooled into thinking this way, and they are just as capable and smart as the white man.

Example 2 source: Shirley Chrisholm: “It is important that black women utilize their brain power and focus on issues in any movement that will redound to the benefit of their people because we can serve as a vocal and a catalytic pressure group within the so-called humanistic movements, many of whom do not really comprehend the black man and the black woman,” (p. 2).
Term examples: 1. Voting Rights Act of 1964 2. Violence Against Womens Act
4th paragraph ideas-( Anti-war movement)
Example 1 source: “The Century: America’s Time: Unpinned (1965-1970)”, at minute 8:54, U.S. intervention in Vietnam.
