Use & Function of Public Space Project Part 3

*This is a 3 part project and I have posted all 3 separately. I would prefer someone that would do all 3 because they all are based off each other.*

Public space in American cities is on the decline in the 21st century. More and more spaces that were open fully to the public have become “mix-use” spaces that limit the amount of access and community development opportunities for the public at large. In this project, you are going to research and evaluate specific public spaces in your chosen city, to assess the success of the space as a truly public venue.

Criteria for Project

Using the methods set up by the Project for Public Space (Links to an external site.) you can choose to evaluate a:

Park
Square
Waterfront/Greenway
College Campus (not UNCC)

In evaluating thousands of public spaces around the world, PPS has found that successful ones have four key qualities: they are Accessible; people are engaged in Activities there; the space is Comfortable and has a good image; and finally, it is a Sociable place: one where people meet each other and take people when they come to visit. Part 1:

You will do a detailed physical assessment of the space using the 4 qualities above noting how your location does and does not meet the basic criteria for Public Spaces.

Part 2:

During this time of social distancing, public spaces will be highly effected. People are being encouraged to make smart decisions about how to avoid possible infection and public spaces and activities will suffer. Do a survey of local theaters, churches, parks, public event spaces, and other points of social contact to see what steps they are taking to protect the public from infection. What are they doing, what statements have they put out, and what do you think the impact will be both economically and socially for closing.

Part 3:

Once you have completed the project you will turn in the results of your surveys and additionally each you should include a section about your personal experiences with the project and observations about what can be done in the space to make it work better for the public. If there are no suggestions as to how the space can be improved, then discuss why the space is so successful

This is a large project and should be a minimum of 5-7 pages
